Oregon voters to decide fate of large-scale data centers in November

OREGON, Ohio (WTVG) – The fate of large-scale data centers in Oregon will be in the hands of voters this November after residents secured enough signatures on a petition to limit the scope of future facilities.

According to the mayor, Oregon will be the first jurisdiction in Ohio to bring forth a citizen-led petition to limit the size of data centers. The city council voted unanimously to accept the certification of signatures from the board of elections. The question now heads to the ballot.

The effort comes after weeks of collecting signatures. James Davis with United Neighbors of Oregon said his group collected more than enough signatures for a proposed charter amendment to limit the scope and size of data centers to 25 megawatts…
