In preparation for St. Patrick’s Day, Zach Lahey orders 700 pounds of corned beef to serve at his restaurant.
The holiday, which falls on Tuesday, is a big deal for the owner of Manhattan’s Pub ‘n Cheer in uptown Toledo, and also holds special meaning because of his Irish heritage.
“Ever since I was a little kid, we’ve been celebrating St Patrick’s Day as a family,” Lahey said. “Dad would bring home the corned beef. Mom would get out her big pot to cook it in, just simmer it all day, and she would add carrots, onions, potatoes, and some celery. Dad would always slice the meat on a platter, and Mom would always make her chocolate cake and decorate it with shamrocks.”…
