Defendant in fatal arson referred for insanity evaluation

TOLEDO, Ohio — A Toledo man facing nearly 20 charges in connection with a fatal house fire earlier this month was referred for a psychiatric evaluation during his arraignment on Wednesday.

Cory Allen, 44, appeared in Lucas County Common Pleas Court. At the request of the defense, a judge ordered Allen to the Court Diagnostic and Treatment Center for evaluations regarding his competency to stand trial and a potential plea of not guilty by reason of insanity.
