Safety Town in Oregon gets rebuild, new permanent home

OREGON, Ohio — A longtime tradition for children heading into kindergarten in Oregon is getting a major update and a permanent home.

The Oregon Safety Town program used to be in the parking lot of Starr Elementary. It’ll still be there too, just in a more permanent spot. A full rebuild of its scaled-down city is well overdue, as the previous buildings served the community for more than 20 years.

The project is being led by the Oregonian Club, with support from the Oregon police and fire departments, along with donations from across the community. Clay High School construction students are also playing a major role in rebuilding the structures, many of whom once went through the Safety Town program themselves…
