Lloyd Center Closes After More Than 60 Years in Operation to Make Way for Redevelopment Project

The Lloyd Center shopping mall in Portland, Oregon, closed its doors permanently on August 8, 2026, ending more than six decades of operation as the property prepares for a large-scale mixed-use redevelopment.

The iconic mall, which opened in August 1960 and once held the distinction of being the largest shopping center in the United States, will be demolished to make way for a new neighborhood featuring housing, parks, retail spaces, and public gathering areas.
