Norfolk drivers met with rain, flooded roads in once-in-60-year flash flood event

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Drivers making their way home Tuesday evening were met in many places by flooded streets and heavy rain, and it was a once-in-60-year flash flood event for the Mermaid City.

“I’ve always heard about how bad it can get, I’ve never actually experienced it especially not to this extent, so it is surprising to me,” said Norfolk resident Jaevynn Holmes-Reid.

Several inches of rain fell across the Mermaid City Tuesday, and it led to sights of flooded underpasses and roads, turning 10 minute commutes to long delays, no matter your method of transportation…
