VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A former Virginia Beach Sheriff’s deputy arrested in connection to the death of an inmate is due in court Monday morning.
Eric Baptiste is one of three former deputies that face charges following the death of Rolin Hill. In June of 2024, Hill was arrested at a 7-Eleven for trespassing and later taken to Virginia Beach jail in a restraint device.

Body camera footage showed when Baptiste and the two other sheriff’s deputies attempted to remove the restraint device. Hill was struck repeatedly while two of the deputies kneeled on his neck and torso as they tried to restrain him. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
Hill’s death was initially said to have been a medical emergency but later ruled homicide by asphyxiation by the state medical examiner…
