The SUV driver’s name has been released
The Daily Progress reports that the driver of the SUV that drove off the Virginia Beach Fishing Pier has been identified as Steve Wahle. There have been 10s of millions of videos on social media capturing the event and its aftermath on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
The recovery effort was led by the Virginia Beach Police in coordination with Crofton Industries. The red Nissan Kicks was said to appear to be smashed and was hoisted upside down from the water, with the hood partially dangling off.
No one was injured during the recovery process and a candlelight vigil to honor Wahle was held at the Fishing Pier because of the tragic way he died. There are no additional details at this time.
