2 convicted for robbing same Dollar General in Norfolk twice

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Two individuals were convicted on robbery charges after they robbed the same Dollar General store twice in two months back in 2023, officials said.

On July 29 before 10 p.m., La’Tavius Dae’Shawn Wood, 22, and Mahogany Denise Hicklin, 23, walked into the Dollar General at 3350 Chesapeake Blvd. dressed in dark clothing and wearing face coverings, police said.

The clerk called police to report the individuals and said he believed he was about to be robbed. While waiting on police, Wood and Hicklin came to the register, Wood pulled out a gun and demanded cash, officials said. The two fled with the cash before police arrived. Police couldn’t find the two at the time, and collected descriptions and surveillance.

On Sept. 23, also just before 10 p.m., the two returned to the store to commit a second robbery. A witness told police that the pair fled in a Toyota Highlander, and within minutes, officers spotted the Toyota and began pursuing it. Wood, who was driving, lost control and crashed the vehicle into a tree near the I-64 off-ramp onto Chesapeake Boulevard. The two were arrested, the stolen cash from the second robbery was recovered, and they both confessed to committing the July robbery.
