Norfolk City Jail offers reentry programs to help inmates succeed after release

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY)— Offering help to those behind bars, Norfolk City Jail has a list of reentry programs so incarcerated men and women can have the education and support to be successful when they leave. Inmates say it provides them the crucial support they need to adapt back to society.

The Norfolk Sheriff’s Office has more than 15 programs offered to reduce recidivism, support rehabilitation and prepare the inmates.

Partnering with Norfolk Public Schools, there’s an adult basic literacy program designed to help those who read below a high school level improve their reading, writing and math skills for future employment opportunities.
