BETHESDA, Md. — A Bethesda small business owner says she lost $25,000 after falling victim to a sophisticated phone scam in which someone impersonated her bank using a spoofed number.
Susan Limb, owner of Praline Bakery and Bistro, said the incident happened last month when she received a call that appeared to come from her bank’s fraud department. The caller ID matched the bank’s official number, leading her to believe the call was legitimate.
