Alexandria leaders line up behind Beyer ahead of crowded Democratic primary

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – A who’s who of Alexandria’s current and former elected officials endorsed U.S. Rep. Don Beyer’s reelection bid Monday, offering a broad show of local support as the seven-term congressman heads into a contested Democratic primary in August.

The endorsement was signed by Mayor Alyia Gaskins, Vice Mayor Sarah Bagley and City Council members Canek Aguirre, John Chapman, Jacinta Greene and Sandy Marks. Councilmember Abdel Elnoubi did not sign on. Former Mayors Bill Euille, Allison Silberberg and Justin Wilson also signed, as did Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryan Porter, Clerk of the Court Greg Parks and Sheriff Sean Casey.

The full Alexandria School Board endorsed Beyer as well, including Chair Michelle Rief, Vice Chair Christopher Harris and members Abdulahi Abdalla, Tim Beaty, Kelly Carmichael Booz, Alexander Crider Scioscia, Donna Kenley, Ashley Simpson Baird and Ryan Reyna…
