WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – A groundbreaking for the Derby Shores star bonds project was held Tuesday afternoon. The project promises a nearly 4-acre man-made crystal clear lagoon and sandy white beaches in Kansas.
The $160 million project was approved by the Derby City Council in 2022. Some logistical issues caused delays but now work is set to get underway.
“You know they say anything worth while is hard to get, so it’s taken a long time to get this project underway and any good project takes a long time and everyone wants them done like this, me especially,” said Rodney Steven II, president and owner of Genesis Health Club. “I can’t wait. I want it done next week but they take a lot of time and I’m super excited just to get it done and get moving forward with it.”
Derby Shores is planned as a mixed-use destination centered around recreation, entertainment, tourism, and community gathering spaces.
The project is set to open in phases. Construction will begin with the lagoon, followed by the hotel and apartments…
