Wichita woman arrested after putting girl in choke hold and knife to her throat, police say

A 30-year-old Wichita woman was arrested after she allegedly held a child in a choke hold and put a knife to the girl’s throat, according to Wichita police.

The girl had minor injuries. Police spokesperson Andrew Ford said they were superficial.

Malaysia Denise Shaw remained jailed Friday afternoon on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder and abuse of a child. She was arrested just before 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph, according to police records. The incident started at 9:11 a.m. Thursday with a child abuse call.

Police reports say there were four victims. When asked the ages of the victims, Ford said “young child.” Police previously would release ages of victims.

“It’s still an active investigation and per Kansas law we can refrain from releasing” those details, he said.

Ford also wouldn’t say the relationship between the suspect and the children. He also would not say the address where the incident started.
