Storm Track 3 Forecast: Pattern change arrives, rain and cool through midweek

Unseasonably warm temperatures will make a major, yet brief, change shortly. Highs today are widespread in the 80s before a cold front drops south.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop over northern Kansas this evening with an increase in storm development along and east of I-135 overnight.

A few storms in the east will be capable of large hail and damaging winds. There is a Marginal Risk outlined for this potential.

Overnight, temps drop from the 40s in the northwest to the 60s in the extreme southeast corner of Kansas. Goodland gets as cold as the upper 30s.

Areas to the northwest will struggle to warm out of the 40s on Tuesday. The rest favor the 50s and 60s for highs.

As another piece of energy ramps up scattered rain production, once we get into Tuesday night, areas near the Colorado state line will battle snow mixing in with the rain.

Colder temps will enable more snow production and there may be enough for accumulations in select cities, including Goodland. Any rain and snow will taper into Wednesday morning.

Temps the next couple of days will be well below average. Wednesday will only warm to the 40s over the west with the 50s farther east. We recover on Thursday to the 60s and 70s.

Wednesday night will be the coldest of the week. Freeze Watches are in place for western Kansas from Wednesday night through Thursday morning.

There is another quick moving piece of energy that tries to bring a few sprinkles and showers to northern Kansas late Thursday night into Friday morning.

On Friday, temps warm into the 70s with some spiking the 80s.

There is a chance for another wave of showers and storms from west to east the second half of Saturday. A few may become strong to severe for hail and damaging wind potential. We will then cool to the 60s and 70s for highs on Sunday.
