‘We need our lakes back’: N.C. certifies Boiling Spring Lakes dam to hold water again

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – North Carolina officials have certified that the upper dam in Boiling Spring Lakes can now hold water, clearing the way for the upstream lake to refill through natural processes such as rainfall, according to city officials.

Boiling Spring Lakes City Manager Matt Kirkland said the dam is now closed and the upper lake is the first of four ongoing dam projects to reach this milestone.

“You should see the water level start to rise up… as that lake refills… citizens might see public works crews inspecting the dams… the shoreline buffer… the lake bed… and just monitoring the progress,” Kirkland said…
