Wilmington Downtown Trail moves forward despite delays; funding hurdles remain

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Design work on Wilmington’s long-planned downtown greenway trail is nearing completion, according to the City of Wilmington.

The proposed 5.9-mile multi-use Downtown Wilmington Trail was first identified as a top priority in the 2013 New Hanover County and City of Wilmington Comprehensive Greenway Plan, according to a city spokesperson.

The first phase covers approximately 1.7 miles, running from 3rd Street in downtown through a state-owned rail corridor to McRae Street, then east along the CSX railroad right-of-way to Archie Blue Park, and north through the park to the Love Grove Bridge multi-use path…
