Central Mass. woman pleads guilty in connection with stealing $100k in government benefits

A Central Massachusetts woman pleaded guilty in connection with stealing more than $100,000 in Social Security benefits.

Jennifer Valley, a 51-year-old Barre resident, pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of theft of government money, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

In October 2022, Valley began taking retirement benefits that were intended for a person who died, prosecutors said. Valley had previously lived with the person and had been appointed as the beneficiary’s representative payee to manage their Social Security benefits…
