Auditors warn of fraud risk tied to Baker Police Department accounting duties

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Auditors highlighted several issues within the City of Baker, including police department accounting operations, payroll processes and report filing.

An independent audit report for the fiscal year ending June 30 stated that the city did not have adequate segregation of functions within the police department’s accounting system due to not enough staff performing related duties.

Auditors explained that errors or fraud could be at a higher risk without changes. Management was recommended to reassign incompatible duties among different employees so that a single employee does not have control of multiple duties at once…
