NASSAU, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Several Rensselaer County emergency crews responded to the Kinderhook Creek in Nassau on Saturday for a water rescue, according to the Tsatsawassa Fire Company. The incident reportedly occurred behind a property on U.S. Route 20.

The Tsatsawassa Fire Company was dispatched to the scene just before 3:20 p.m. following a report of a boat in distress. Upon arrival, authorities said they found two men in a damaged canoe, trapped by swift water from last week’s rainfall.
According to the department, initial efforts to reach the two victims were hampered by the high water levels. The two men were able to safely move onto a large rock while additional assistance was requested.

Both men were rescued and moved to dry land just before 6 p.m., authorities said. According to the Melrose Fire Department, the two were evaluated by EMS personnel.
The Tsatsawassa Fire Company was assisted at the scene by numerous agencies throughout Rensselaer County, including EMS and fire companies from Averill Park, Poestenkill, Melrose and Stephentown. New York State Police and Schodack Police were also reportedly on the scene…
