Just months after investing heavily in new restaurant concepts and reviving a historic dining destination, a New York hospitality company has reduced its workforce as it navigates a slower-than-expected business environment.
The move highlights the challenges restaurant operators continue to face as higher operating costs and uneven customer traffic reshape the industry.
NeoVista Hospitality cuts about 15% of local workforce
NeoVista Hospitality has laid off approximately 15% of its local workforce in Albany, New York, affecting around 10 employees, according to company officials. The cuts primarily impacted front-of-house staff working at the company’s recently opened venues, including Japanese-inspired restaurant Izakaya Kinko and steakhouse The Vault.
Several former employees told local media they were surprised by the layoffs, saying they received late-night notifications and little explanation about their employment status. Company founder and CEO Kevin Yang attributed the decision to a seasonal slowdown in business but acknowledged he was not directly involved in the day-to-day staffing decisions.
