SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — New York State Police are investigating a fatal car crash on Interstate 890 in Schenectady. The incident happened just after 6:15 a.m. on Tuesday.

Detectives determined that a Nissan Altima being driven by 29-year-old Miguel Alejandro Mendoza Canarte of Shandaken reportedly left the roadway near the Exit 6 off-ramp on Tuesday morning. NYSP stated that Canarte’s car struck an embankment off the road and collided with a support pole for an overhead sign in the vicinity.
Canarte, who was the car’s only occupant, was taken to Ellis Hospital, where he was declared dead, according to State Police. The investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.
