ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Albany holds some of the richest history in the country, and some of it can be found in the smallest and highest places in the area. The city is home to the first municipal carillon in the country; creating a sound that has been ringing through the city since the early 1900s.

Every Wednesday, Amy Heebner goes up three floors in the city hall elevator, goes through a tiny door, up an over 100-stair spiral staircase and above a trap door. It’s a commute she makes each week when it’s time to play the carillon.
“I sit right here,” said Heebner. “When I leave, no one knows that that’s what I was doing, ” said Heebner.
She’s the woman behind the curtain, of a sound that rings throughout the city during lunch time. Heebner is one of only three people in Albany who knows how to play the carillon. This massive instrument is otherwise known as the instrument behind Albany’s city hall bells…
