SCOTIA, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A family has opened a store for all things sports in the heart of Scotia. DukesPlex Sporting Goods & More opened on Mohawk Avenue on Monday.

The family-centered small business allows local athletes, parents, coaches and teams to shop local at an affordable price. They can find essential game-time gear for a variety of sports, including youth baseball and softball, football, basketball, soccer, dance, gymnastics, cheer and lacrosse. Customers can also place custom orders for uniforms, jerseys, spirit wear and other apparel for local teams, leagues, schools and organizations.
On DukesPlex’s website, customers can also browse inventory and place orders, including for customized items. The small business is also meeting sports families where there at by visiting local tournaments and community events across Scotia, Glenville and the greater Capital Region. Each room and space located within the storefront in Scotia has a purpose and carries a greater meaning. The Legacy Corner offers a comfortable sitting area that represents the family side of the business and the idea that sports are about more than just equipment. The family-owned shop also seeks to shine a light on the memories, families, coaches, teammates and the experiences that get passed down from one generation to the next.
Another area, deemed The Dugout, is set up for kids to enjoy while their family is shopping the store. DukesPlex created the room for younger siblings and other children to have a space of their own to play games, enjoy sports-themed seating and other activities to feel included.
Founded by Elijah Dukes, a local father, coach and former Scotia-area athlete, “Where family meets legacy” is the principal the business runs on. The opening of DukesPlex comes after months of planning, painting, building, ordering, organizing, and late nights and early mornings to turn a vision into something real.

“Opening DukesPlex means a lot to me because Scotia isn’t just where the business is located, this is home,” Dukes said. “I grew up here, played sports on many of the same fields I now get to coach on, my family is here, and so much of my life has been connected to this community. Being able to build something that gives local families and athletes another place to find what they need, while also supporting teams and organizations in the area, is something I’m incredibly proud of.”…
