AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — As we previously reported, the Landfill fire led to mandatory evacuations on Sunday for many in Potter County.
One local nonprofit, Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, was also called to evacuate its center.
“So we got a message from the sheriff’s department letting us know that they were gonna be closing the roads and that the fire was coming this way. We weren’t in immediate danger from the fire, but the smoke was really starting to blow over here,” explained Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center’s rehabber Christy Rowley. Like with our birds, especially, but with all the animals, the smoke would be detrimental to them even if the fire didn’t reach here, and we knew that.”…
