Car Flies Off Fort Worth Loop 820 Bridge, Killing Driver and Freezing Traffic

What should have been a routine midday drive on Loop 820 turned deadly Monday, when a vehicle slammed into a bridge pillar in west Fort Worth, went over an overpass and landed on its roof, killing the driver and shutting down all southbound lanes.

Fort Worth police said the wreck was reported around 12:25 p.m. near White Settlement Road. The violent rollover brought traffic to a standstill as emergency crews moved in and officers closed the freeway to manage the scene and keep drivers away from the debris field.

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, officers confirmed that the vehicle had struck a bridge pillar, rolled, and was found on its roof. The paper reported that the driver was the only person in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the victim’s identity. A police call log cited by the Star-Telegram captured one 911 caller’s alarming report that a “car flew off the bridge and is now on its roof.”…
