Police from the 100th Precinct in Rockaway Beach are looking for a gunman who allegedly fired a handgun inside an apartment building after he and another woman assaulted a resident on the night of Friday, Aug. 28.
Police say the 28-year-old male victim was walking in the lobby of his residential building in the Hammel Houses NYCHA complex in the vicinity of Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Beach 86th Street just before 8:30 p.m. when he was approached by two strangers. The unidentified couple engaged the resident in a verbal dispute that turned violent when the duo began to punch him multiple times with closed fists, police said. The male assailant brandished a firearm and fired a shot that missed the victim and struck a wall before the perpetrators fled on foot in an unknown direction.
EMS responded to the location and transported the victim to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway, where he was listed in stable condition.
