IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – A man acquitted of first-degree murder in a 2025 shooting was sentenced Friday to five years in prison on a gun charge, though a judge said he will receive credit for time served and there is no mandatory minimum he must serve.
A jury found Antavis Watson not guilty of first-degree murder in the March 2025 shooting death of Elijah Williams. Watson claimed self-defense, and the jury agreed. Because he had prior felony convictions, however, he was not legally permitted to possess a firearm.
