CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Taha Tawil, who led Cedar Rapids’ Muslim community as a teacher and Imam, died at 66 years old, the Islamic Center of Cedar Rapids announced.
Originally from Jerusalem, Tawil worked within Cedar Rapids’ mosques to help grow the community over 40 years.
Tawil also spent years giving tours of the Mother Mosque in Cedar Rapids, the oldest purpose-built mosque in the United States. He led a restoration effort for the building which was originally built in the 1930s…
