IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – The Johnson County jail is packed – and a new state law is making it more full.
Johnson County Sheriff Brad Kunkel said the jail is already feeling the impact from Senate File 2399 – which just came into effect July 1. The law makes changes to bond and initial appearance rules.
Prior to July 1, Iowa law enforcement could make arrests and release suspects for certain charges so long as they “promised to appear” at future court hearings…
