Smiths Station softball removed from playoffs; Auburn advances to regionals

SMITHS STATION, Ala. (WRBL) — The Alabama High School Athletic Association has removed Smiths Station’s varsity softball team from postseason play after the school self-reported a violation of the AHSAA Contest Limitation Rule.

According to a statement released by the AHSAA, Smiths Station’s softball program has been fined and placed on probation. The violation resulted in the forfeiture of all games involving the player connected to the issue.

As a result, Smiths Station will no longer participate in the AHSAA Central Regional softball qualifier despite originally earning a runner-up finish in the Class 7A Area 4 tournament.

Auburn High School, which finished third in the area tournament, will now advance to the regional tournament and face Baker High School in the first round next week…
