Six Swim Guide sites on the Upper Neuse failed to meet recreational water-quality standards this week.
“Water quality on the upper Neuse has been really good all summer long,” said Sound Rivers Program Director Clay Barber. “That we’ve got six sites failing now is more a reflection of the ongoing drought — if it’s not raining, there’s no bacteria being washed into waterways; no sewer manholes overflowing. The only difference between this week’s results and previous ones is some pretty hard rain.”
Sites that failed the Swim Guide test this week include Penny’s Bend Nature Preserve on the Eno River, Milburnie and Anderson Point in Raleigh, the River Walk and Neuse Golf in Clayton and Smithfield Town Commons…
