A revered history professor was found dead hours after he vanished while swimming with his wife.

The tragedy occurred on Tuesday, Sept. 1, around 11 a.m. local time, when officials were dispatched to Eastwood Lake, off South Lakeshore Drive, in Chapel Hill, N.C., following a report that an 85-year-old swimmer was missing, the Town of Chapel Hill said in a statement.
