Safety improvement project to begin in Canyon in June

CANYON, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The Texas Department of Transportation Amarillo District noted that contractor STX Civil is scheduled to begin construction on pedestrian safety upgrades in the City of Canyon on June 1.

According to TxDOT officials, the project consists of ADA upgrades in two areas of Canyon and will be completed in two different phases. Officials noted that phase one is located on 8th Street from 4th Avenue to 9th Avenue and also along 9th Avenue from 8th Street to 10th Street.

TxDOT noted that phase one will include the construction of sidewalks and shared-use paths with the purpose of improving the “safety and mobility of the traveling public in the area.” The first phase is expected to be completed by August 7, before the Canyon Independent School District school year.
