Fire breaks out at San Diego apartment complex

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Firefighters knocked down an early morning fire at an apartment complex in San Diego Wednesday after reports that residents may have been trapped inside, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue officials.

Crews were dispatched around 1:40 a.m. to the Beldon Village Apartments in the 7700 block of Beldon Street for reports of a commercial structure fire.

SDFD Captain Jason Shanley said multiple callers warned that people may have been trapped as flames and thick black smoke poured from the complex. One resident inside an apartment could reportedly be heard yelling, “fire, fire!”
