A former Boston police officer living in Lady Lake was arrested after allegedly fabricating a stabbing story during a boozy domestic dispute that drew massive law enforcement resources, including a sheriff’s helicopter.
Lawrence Joseph Sullivan, 66, was booked into the Lake County Jail on charges of battery on a person 65 years of age or older and providing false information to law enforcement.
Lady Lake police officers responded to an emergency call hang-up at Sullivan’s home in the Hammock Oaks development at approximately 8:30 p.m. Monday. Upon arrival, officers found Sullivan at the front door with his right hand covered in dried blood. Smeared blood and droplets were also scattered across the lower floor of the residence.
Sullivan initially told officers that his wife of 23 years had cut him with a sharp object and fled the home. He claimed he had tried to wake her up upstairs to get her to eat, but she became aggressive, bit his hand, and slashed him. Fearing he would be stabbed, Sullivan said he ran downstairs to call 911.
