Austin ISD weighs superintendent bonuses amid major budget shortfall

AUSTIN, Texas (KXAN) – The Austin Independent School District Board is expected to consider a proposed contract amendment Thursday that would extend Superintendent Matias Segura’s contract through 2030 and also include a performance pay incentive tied to campus accountability ratings.

The proposal comes as Austin ISD works to address significant financial challenges, including a $181 million budget deficit.

Under the proposed contract amendment, Segura would be eligible for additional compensation if campuses currently receiving a “D” or “F” state accountability rating improve to at least a “C” during the next accountability cycle…
