Former IT specialist sentenced for hacking Saydel Schools’ computer systems

DES MOINES, Iowa — A former Saydel Schools employee has been sentenced to nearly two years in prison after admitting to hacking into their systems.

In October 2025, 34-year-old Ezekiel Dean Potter was charged with Computer Fraud by a federal grand jury.

Court filings state that Potter worked for the Saydel Community School District as an IT Support Specialist from May 2022 until he was terminated in April 2023.
