FARRAGUT, Tenn. (WATE) — Conversations are growing over a road closure in Farragut, as neighbors weigh the potential impact on their commute and the community. Boring Road is currently closed for construction, and a permanent closure could be on the table as a new elementary school is preparing to open.
Boring Road is located in West Knoxville, right on the border of the town of Farragut. For years, Boring Road has been a shortcut for many drivers. Now, with a new elementary school taking shape behind a nearby Ingle’s shopping center, residents are getting a firsthand look at changes that could permanently alter the way they travel through the area.
“A new elementary school is going in around the corner from us on Boring Road, and of course, it will impact us. We’ve always used to say it is a very boring place, but it’s going to be a little busier,” said Steve Cottrell, who has lived in a house on the road for 32 years.

Boring Road is closed to through traffic, as part of a project to widen the road between Burney Circle and Boring Lane ahead of a new KCS elementary school opening in 2027.
