Nearly 2,000 acres along Sugar River preserved in one of southern Wisconsin’s largest conservation acquisitions

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Groundswell Conservancy and Ducks Unlimited have completed the purchase of a nearly 2,000-acre stretch of land along the Sugar River, marking one of the largest conservation acquisition efforts in southern Wisconsin.

The two-mile property, located approximately 45 minutes south of Madison in Rock County, is the largest land protection project in Groundswell Conservancy’s 43-year history and Ducks Unlimited’s largest acquisition in Wisconsin.

The former Applegate-Bader Farm includes Sugar River frontage, wetlands, floodplain forests and prairies. The land will remain open to the public for hiking, fishing, hunting, wildlife viewing, and other outdoor recreation…
