Man sentenced for robbing Rockford post office

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – A Rockford man was sentenced to prison Wednesday for robbing a United States Post Office with a gun in 2025.

Anthony Johnson, 59, was sentenced to six years and eight months in federal prison and was ordered to pay full restitution to the United States Postal Service.

In May 2025, Johnson walked into the post office at 1140 Broadway, reached for a firearm in his waistband and told the clerk to give him the money in the cash register.

He took about $219 and ran back to his home, crossing private backyards on his way…
