Members of the Freeport Police Department and Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office were recognized for successfully resolving a recent hostage situation involving an armed, suicidal individual.
Officers responded to a residence after receiving reports of a suicidal person barricaded inside with a crossbow. The individual repeatedly threatened to harm themselves and responding officers, the Freeport Police Department stated on its Facebook page July 6.
Recognizing the immediate danger, officers established a secure perimeter, evacuated nearby residents and coordinated their response to contain the situation, the post states.
