Maersk has launched a cold chain service connecting produce shipments in Chile with ocean transportation, fumigation, cold storage, and inland delivery through the Port of Wilmington in North Carolina.
Developed with produce supplier Oppy and the Port of Wilmington, the service is designed for grapes and other regulated produce moving into the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. These products must be fumigated before entering the United States.
Maersk said the service brings those steps together, allowing cargo to move from vessels through fumigation and into cold storage or inland transportation. The company said the setup can reduce delays and protect the quality of temperature-sensitive products.
