Chief: Fireworks set off by youths causes Germania Avenue fire in Schenectady

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (WNYT) — Schenectady fire officials said minors setting off fireworks caused a fire that displaced nine people and sent one firefighter to the hospital with minor injuries.

According to Schenectady Fire Chief George Burns, firefighters responded at 3:12 p.m. Monday, July 27, to a reported structure fire at 341 Germania Ave. First crews found heavy fire at the rear of the structure, evacuated residents and contained the fire to the rear exterior of the building.

The department said the building’s interior had smoke and water damage. No civilians were hurt, and one firefighter was treated at Ellis Hospital and later released with minor injuries…
