Fire damages home’s porch, forces residents to vacate temporarily

SCHENECTADY, NY (WRGB) — Firefighters quickly knocked down a porch fire that spread into a Union Street home shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday, leaving smoke and water damage inside but sparing the building from total loss, according to Chief Burns.

Crews were called in shortly after 4 p.m. and found the home’s front porch fully involved, with the fire extending into the interior upon arrival. Burns described the response as a “quick knock down.”

Smoke and water damage were reported inside the home, but Chief Burns said the building is salvageable. Residents were ordered to vacate in the meantime. Six people were displaced in all; the Red Cross is assisting four of them…
