CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Some more wet weather is on the way for eastern Iowa.
The storm system responsible for this still has some time to get here, so we’re expecting a quiet Monday night. The evening should be rather pleasant, and temperatures should be comfortable by morning as well. Lows in the low to mid 60s are likely. Skies go from generally on the clear side this evening to partly cloudy by later tonight.
Showers will attempt to move in with that influx of clouds after daybreak on Tuesday. However, they will initially struggle to make much headway into our area. We can’t fully rule out an isolated shower in the morning or early afternoon, but most folks will stay dry. Instead, partly cloudy skies will allow highs to still reach the low to mid 80s.
The chance of showers and storms increases later on Tuesday and especially Tuesday night. Some scattered activity is possible as soon as late afternoon and evening. It looks like things will become more widespread at night, though. Chances are highest along and south of U.S. Highway 20, with some indications that the Interstate 80 corridor may wind up being a focus for some heavier rain.
Due to the winds in the atmosphere, there will be some tendency for storm activity to repeat in a given location. Where exactly that could take place is hard to pin down with exact certainty before storms develop. In that spot, though, we could see some extra high rainfall totals.
