Henderson completes 2nd Street safety project

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — It took construction crews just one day to wrap up the road reconfiguration project on 2nd Street in Henderson, and KYTC officials say it makes the road safer for everyone.

Road crews began by changing the four-lane roadway into one 11-foot travel lane in each direction with a dedicated center two-way left-turn lane. Instead of crossing four travel lanes, pedestrians now have to cross just one in each direction and can use the center lane as a refuge spot if they are unable to make it all the way across.

In addition to those changes, a new 4-foot bicycle lane was added in each direction. Transportation officials expect the new lane to create a more predictable traffic pattern for all who use the road…
