SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Schenectady Police Department has announced the results of a targeted enforcement initiative that took place during the evening hours of August 5. The operation aimed to address the ongoing public safety concerns associated with the illegal operation of e-bikes, dirt bikes and motorcycles on city streets.

The initiative was conducted with the requested assistance of the New York State Police Aviation Unit, New York State Police Troop G, the New York State Police Community Stabilization Unit, the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office, the Schenectady County Street Crimes Task Force, Schenectady County Probation, the Schenectady Police Department’s Traffic Unit, K9 Unit and GIVE Detectives.
In total, the operation resulted in the following:
- 47 vehicle and traffic-related tickets issued
- 1 DWI arrest
- 2 arrests for aggravated unlicensed operation
- 5 arrests for city ordinance violations
- 18 electric dirtbikes seized
- 3 e-bikes seized
- 3 gas-powered dirt bikes seized
- 5 mopeds seized, including one that was reported stolen
- 1 go-cart seized
- 1 scooter seized
Through the use of the New York State Police Aviation Unit’s helicopter, in combination with the Schenectady Police Department’s drone units, officers were able to safely identify and address e-bike and motorbike violations. They were able to do while minimizing the risks to riders, officers and the public.
Schenectady police remind the public that illegal operation of e-bikes, dirt bikes and motorcycles on public roadways continues to pose significant public safety concerns.
