ALBANY COUNTY, N.Y. (WNYT) – Albany County is considering a proposal that would fully exempt some disabled veterans from paying property taxes on their homes.
Ally Hoy was in Menands explaining the new law. The proposal would apply to veterans considered 100-percent disabled because of a service-related injury or illness. Right now, veterans can qualify for a partial property tax exemption based on how severe that disability is.
Under the proposal, if the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or the Department of Defense has determined a veteran is 100-percent disabled because of military service, that veteran could get a full property tax break on a home.
