ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) — An Indianapolis woman has been arrested by US Marshals after crashing into a vehicle and injuring the driver while fleeing from police.
In January 2026, an off-duty Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office deputy was working a security job while in uniform and approached a suspected shoplifter. The shoplifter did not stop and rushed to her vehicle before the officer could get close enough. According to a release from the Indiana State Police, the woman backed up her vehicle toward the officer, shifted into drive, and sped out of the parking lot.
The deputy then chased her in his marked ECSO vehicle and drove south on Cassopolis Street until he spotted the woman’s vehicle near the intersection with Country Club Drive. He observed her speeding through the stop sign and continued south.
